Class Ten; Text (Data Visualization and Dashboard)

Thinking about creating data visualization

1.       Determine what are you trying to communicate

2.       Determine which visuals best achieve your aim in the clearest manner possible.

3.       What data (or subset of data) is relevant for your aim?

4.       Who is your audience?

5.       How will you structure your visualization

6.       How will you demonstrate the relationship between data

7.       Will a users understand how the visualizations work and what it represents?

Types of charts and usage

1.       Column chart and bar chart are used when show a category data especially when they are more than 4.

2.       Area chart and line chart are used when data involves date (time series) to show trends.

3.       Bubble chart is used to compare the size or usage of items.

4.       Pie chart is used when there are 3 or 4 items. Also pie chart should be use only when you can distinguish between the slicers in a pie chart to know which is bigger.

 1.      BUILDING OF DASHBOARD AND SLICERS

A dashboard is a visual representation of data that’s designed to provide an at-a-glance overview of key metrics. A dashboard can include a variety of visualizations, like charts, tables, and graphs.

It’s a great way to get a quick overview of your data and identify areas that need attention. Dashboards are often used in business intelligence and data analytics applications.

The Excel Dashboard is used to display overviews of large data tracks. Excel Dashboards use dashboard elements like tables, charts, and gauges to show the overviews. The dashboards ease the decision-making process by showing the vital parts of the data in the same windows.

A dashboard is a visual representation of KPIs, key business metrics, and other complex data in a way that’s easy to understand. Let’s be real, raw data and numbers are essential, but they’re super boring. That’s why you need to make that data accessible

BENEFIT OF DASHBOARD

It helps in monitor the organization’s overall performance, dashboards allow you to capture and report specific data points from each of the departments in the organization, providing a snapshot of current performance and a comparison with earlier performance. Visual presentation of performance measures.

SLICERS

Slicers provide buttons that you can click to filter tables, or PivotTables. In addition to quick filtering, slicers also indicate the current filtering state, which makes it easy to understand what exactly is currently displayed.

A slicer is a visualization tool that allows you to filter and manipulate data in a dashboard. Slicers are often used in conjunction with PivotTables and Pivot Charts. They’re essentially interactive filters that allow you to quickly narrow down the data in a dashboard to just the information you need. For example, if you have a PivotTable showing sales data for all of your products, you could use a slicer to just show the data for a specific product category.
